Brazilian cinema, concerning the latest productions, has been revealing a new tendency: the increasing presence of films that develop subjective, personal themes, which concentrate on the representation of man's situation in life and world. Films telling everyday stories of the common man immersed and lost in its own self, trapped in a labyrinth of doubts, uncertainty, contradictoryfeelings; films focusing on the individual dimension, in which the drama of the everywhere man - always a divided being - plays the protagonist. Making use of artistic expressive and narrative devices, these films are strongly committed to poetical subversion. From the perspective of these considerations, this work aims at presenting an analysis of Durval Discos (Anna Muylaert, 2002), representative of the referred tendency.
