If the science fiction written by English-speaking women has names that have become unavoidable references and have already been translated in Brazil - Mary Shelley, Octavia Butler, Ursula Le Guin, to name but three - the works of science fiction written by French-speaking women authors do not seem to be numerous or well-known. Among French-speaking authors, an unavoidable reference is Ketty Steward, originally from Martinique, but currently based in Paris. From her we present here, in bilingual version, Retorno ao país letal (Retour au pays létal), a “short story of scientific self-fiction”, in the words of the author herself, translated by Claire Silva de Souza, a student of the Language and Literature course (Portuguese-French) at the Federal University of São Paulo, and her supervisor, Ana Cláudia Romano Ribeiro. Retour au pays létal was published in the collection Faites demi-tour dès que possible by the independent French publisher La Volte in 2014.
