The objective of this article is to compare the short story “O espelho”, by Guimarães Rosa and the poem “Depus a máscara”, by Álvaro de Campos. The selection of such texts is based on the fact that both of them deal with the pair essence versus appearance, using as connecting elements, the mask and the mirror. However, the particularity they both have in common and which calls attention is the relation established by the authors between essence and the image of a child. In order to achieve the goal, the analysis will be based on the ideas of Sabine Melchior-Bonnet, Stuart Hall, Jean Chevalier and many others.Downloads
