We are experiencing a crisis of authority in the modern world, and its impact on education has been analyzed and examined from many different perspectives. According to Hannah Arendt, this phenomenon has not been generated in the sphere of education; nevertheless, Arendt sees its impact on education as the most evident symptom of how deep and serious this crisis is. This study has sought to analyze Hannah Arendt’s concept of authority, proposing an approach aimed at breaking away from perspectives that consider authority an epiphenomenon of power. In so doing, I seek to view authority as a consubstantial element of education, and not just an instrument of power over, submission, and subjection of individuals. First, we will present the perspective of French philosopher Alain Renaut, as he proposes a direct, critical discussion with Arendt’s views on authority. Next, I will present the origins of the concept from Hannah Arendt’s perspective, as well as its connection with education.Downloads
