Abstract

This work aims to analyze the translation of the text Idealismo Moral e realismo politico by Simone de Beauvoir in the italian magazine Il Politecnico, from a perspective of cultural studies and feminist criticism. For this, we will see a brief overview and some institutional differences between Brazil and the USA regarding feminist advances in the field of translation, because when it comes to the intertwining between gender and translation, some factors are essential, these will be addressed accordingly with the text Frontera Spaces: Translating as/like a Woman by Pilar Godayol.  Beauvoir's text will show us how idealistic moralism immobilizes the urgent social transformation and especially how the constant re-elaboration of morals can help to combat the bipolarization of political action. The political context of Il Politecnico, of the author's text and the choices of the Italian translator will be approached to trace some arrangements of the author's reception in Italy, as part of the Italian redemocratization process that sought to incorporate new philosophies into its cultural fabric that would give account of historical contradictions in order to combat the fascist moral appeal.
