Abstract

The expansion of world television to new modes of transmission has been driving the production of serial fictions and reaching vast audiences. It is imperative to observe the scope of these audiovisual works and, above all, to understand all their reproductive potential and diffusion of ideology. According to John B. Thompson, ideology can be conveyed by the symbolic forms that carry meaning, which can be attributed to establishing and sustaining systematically asymmetrical power relations. In order to demonstrate this reproduction in the field of serial fiction, this article proposes an analysis of the series Homeland: National Security (2011), in order to verify certain social uses of the symbolic forms that reproduce relations of domination in a contemporary socio-historical context.
