Abstract

This article reflects on the conception of theatrical generation
of Brazilian intellectuals, led by José de Alencar
and Machado de Assis, who, around 1850, intended to
build, in the national stage, an innovative design for the
dramaturgy of the time, namely the theatrical realism
- a mix of moral reflection and reproduction of social
problems. The rise and fall of “dramas of tails“, a polemic
with the romantic drama, solutions scenic theater
realistic and possible legacy of this generation are
some of the topics to be addressed and discussed in our
work.
