Abstract

This study proposes reflections on the short story “Os sobreviventes”, by Caio Fernando Abreu. The aim is to demonstrate how negativity (as a form of subject building) leads to an unstable narrative with no fixed elements, including time, space, and voice. This displacement confirms the idea of a distress in narrating, which is conditioned by social changes occurring during the period of the short story’s production, and that contributes to the narration’s esthetic and politics character.
