Memory and Transcendence in Dora Ferreira da Silva's Poetry

Abstract

In Dora Ferreira's poetry, communion with the cosmos represents a fecund connection with the sacred and memory. Remembering, more than reconstructing what was lost, represents, above all, an encounter with a singular time, the time of Proustian duration, an epiphanic moment capable of freeing us from the technical time and space lineate by the tyranny of scientific rationality. Following Bachelard's premise that whoever dreams will always be more than living, the poet dives into that force of poetic memory, thus reaching that mythic time so well outlined by Mircea Eliade in her book The Sacred and the Profane.
