Abstract

This article aims to present a quantitative reading of the vision of the Italian Geographical Society (IGS) about Africa. IGS, since its foundation, intended to promote the Italian policies for economic exploitation of Africa. A quantitative analysis of the themes of the articles and notes published in the bulletins of IGS, between 1870 and 1889, may help to understand what were the interests of parcels of the bourgeoisie over Africa. Also, it allows us to see aspects of how that society influenced (or was influenced) by the italian colonial conquests.
