Abstract

This article-homage to Algirdas Greimas aims to highlight the contribution of the Dictionary of Semiotics (Semiotique, Dictionnaire raisonne de la théorie du langage, Greimas-Courtés) to narrative theory and its applications, including, the theories of cinema and television. In narrative theory two well-defined fields can be distinguished: the narratological theory proper as a reference science – for example, from Aristotle to Greimas, through Propp, Bajtin, Todorov, Barthes, Genet – and the narrative theories applied to literature, cinema and television. In this work, we relate some of the key entries of the Dictionary of semiotics with film and television narrative.
