Abstract

The aim of this paper is to highlight some of the controversies surrounding the Bolsa Família Program, pointed by some studies as an empowerment tool and by others as a reinforcement of women's submission. This study sought to observe how these issues remain visible in the photojournalistic frameworks. Based on the concepts of framing, vulnerability, subjection and resistance, we discuss the invisibility of the subjects, mainly impoverished black women, and the possibilities of resistance to violence in the frameworks, exemplified in six images extracted from printed publications.
