The present text intends to carry out an analysis of the filmic representations of the Mirabal sisters' resistance to Rafael Trujillo's regime (1930-1938 and 1942-1952) in the film In the Time of the Butterflies (dir. Mariano Barroso, USA-Mexico, 2001). Due to the historical relevance of the episode for the Dominican Republic and Latin America, the sisters became a symbol of the struggle against authoritarianism and against violence, with their memory remaining alive to the present day. In light of this, it is intended to conduct an analysis of the representations of the dictator and the sisters in the audiovisual work, as well as the act of resistance presented and how, from this, the sisters' stories became a symbol of the struggle against authoritarianism and violence.
