The play Roda Viva, written by Chico Buarque de Hollanda and staged by Zé Celso Martinez Corrêa, premiered in Rio de Janeiro in 1968. The hegemonic tendency of specialized reviews was to oppose the scenic
aspects to the texts, as if the dramaturgy and its first staging were completely contrastive. This article aims exploring a different hypothesis: that the theatrical performance was the result of a co-authorship between
the playwright and the director. The staging enhanced aspects present in the dramaturgy. In order to defend this hypothesis, some aspects of the show shall be analyzed: its hybrid gender; the ritualization; the use of
the chorus; the erotization; and the explicit reference to the fame of the playwright himself (which can be associated to Tropicália tendencies).
