This paper analyses the mounting of Nelson Rodrigues’ Senhora dos afogados, directed by Antonio Cadengue, Companhia Teatro de Seraphim (CTS), premiered in 1993 in Recife. It intends to show some principles of that production’s directing project, which comprises a discussion about what a “classic” in the Brazilian theater could be.
