Abstract

This study of the family Symplocaceae is a contribution to the project"Flora da Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brasil". The family is represented in the area by 7 species: Symplocos celastrinea Mart. ex Miq., S. glaberrima Gontsch., S. insolita Aranha, P.W. Fritsch & Almeda, S. lanceolata A.DC., S. nitens (Pohl) Benth., S. pubescens Klotzsch ex Benth., and S. saxatilis Aranha, P.W. Fritsch & Almeda. Descriptions, key to the species, illustrations, phenology and comments on the habitats are presented for all taxa.
