This paper intends to collaborate with essay activity study produced by the Cuban writer Antonio Benítez Rojo about characteristics of cultural identity from Cuba and Caribbean, bringing to discussion his postmodern perspective worked on La isla que se repite (1989), topic that had been already discussed by Quiñones (2007) and Bonfiglio (2014), for seeking to identify a possible later detachment of this essayist from this interpretive affiliation. Therefore, it is based on several essays published by the magazine Encuentro de la Cultura Cubana (1996-2009) devoted mainly to the theme "sugar/slavery", and that end up composing a discursive panel from the resistance of Cuban intellectuals to aspects of power implemented since colonial period by Plantation economy, crossing, according to the author, to the republican and socialist moments.
