In this article, we propose the stories "Sensini" and "A Literary Adventure", from Llamadas teléfonicas by Chilean author Roberto Bolaño, as two ways of inhabiting contemporary world. We focus on silence as a resistance mechanism against the market; and noise, as an echo of its violence, both respectively expressed in marginal and commercialized literature. In both stories, society is articulated by twentieth century´s horror, developed in its perpetuity and so well represented by Franz Kafka´s figure.
