Hanan Al-Shaykh, Modern Arabic Literature, TranslationAbstract
The work in hand presents a translation of the short story Lā yanbaġī ’an ya‘rifa arrajul bihāḏā, “The man shouldn't know about this”, by Hanan Al-Shaykh, made from Arabic into Brazilian Portuguese. We aim to discuss the nuances of translating a narrative characterized by the stream of consciousness. Being reputed among the most important women writers of the Renaissance of the Lebanese Novel, Al-Shaykh in this short story, by the sensuality of her writing, introduces the audience in the Universe of an anonymous woman who experiences her intimacy expressing it through a monologue.
