Golden Cock and Maria Moura' memorial: Rachel de Queiroz and the female contradictions - between independence and conformation

This work intends to discuss the novels Galo de ouro e Memorial de Maria Moura by Rachel de Queiroz, in the perspective of genre, emphasizing the feminine representations between independence and conformation. In its majority, the feminine characters created by the author from Ceará, fight for social equality, claim for freedom of thought and decision-making power in the affective relationships and aim to resist to the masculine subordination, at the same time that they miss a male company, generating an apparent contradiction.
