This article seeks to analyze how North American writers Audre Lorde and Adrienne Rich create a theoretical-poetic concept for the act of naming, which can also be understood as a feminist practice. The objective is, therefore, to present how these authors produce in their essays and poems a writing that is simultaneously poetic and theoretical while rebelling against the paradigm of universality forged by the Western academic literary canon and constructing a thought committed to the survival of women and dissident people. Thus, the article proposes a reading of the poem “A Litany for Durvival” and the essays “The transformation of Silence into Language and Action (1977)” and “Poetry is Not a Luxury (1977)”, by Audre Lorde in dialogue with “North American Time” and the essays “When We Dead Awaken (1971/76)” and “Blood, Bread and Poetry: the location of the poet (1984)”, by Adrienne Rich.
