Abstract

We compute cost of living levels for 11 Brazilian metropolitan regions in the period
1996-2014. We apply the Country Product Dummy (CPD) method to data from the
household expenditure surveys of 1996, 2003 and 2009. We calculate the levels for
these years, and use data from regional price indexes to interpolate the results for years in-between. The results indicate that Brasília, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the most expensive metropolitan areas, and Goiânia presented the largest growth.
