This paper approaches the results of our investigation that aim to analyze the discursive change that happened in undergraduate students of a Peasantry Education course. The starting point of this research was reflections on social inequalities for peasant people and the educational model applied to them, which mischaracterizes and undermines them. Thereby, we criticize the reproduction of hegemonic ideologies as one of the social purposes of rural schools. In considering the polyphony of discourse, we investigated the subject’s socio-ideological changes experienced through contact with a new counter-hegemonic educational project for peasant people. The Science and Technology Center for Energy and Sustainability at the Federal University of Reconcavo of Bahia was the research field of this investigation. The subjects of this research were five students in their final year selected by raffle. Then, we conducted semi-structured interviews to collect data and subsequently analyze them through Bakhtinian discourse analysis. In this paper, we analyzed part of the material assembled to demonstrate the student’s perceptions before and after their experience in the undergraduate course. We found a strong emphasis on the importance of contact with several discourses, traditions, and critical mediation. These experiences influenced the students to change their majority discourses regarding a broader open-minded stance and improved their acceptance of diversity, implying social and personal changes.
