Abstract

Which is the place of negativity within the frame a philosophy of ethical affirmation, such as Spinoza´s? In this article, we return to Hegel´s dialectic in order to criticize the simplifications that usually accompany some contemporary readings that support a negativism or, on the contrary, a philosophical positivism. But we also question the Hegelian interpretation of Spinoza - and Lebrun´s actualization of it - using Bayle´s polemic comment on Spinozian unique substance. Our appeal to the negative is to insist upon the necessity to keep on opening the debate.
