Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the notion of ‘existence’ in the Gassendi’s critique of Cartesian ontological proof of Fifth Meditation, in order to try to evaluate which logical and metaphysical assumptions are implied ( ) in the Gassendi’s statement that existence is not a perfection, as well as in his another further objection, in which he uses the logic of predicables to attack the Cartesian thesis that existence is a property.
