Abstract

The present article aims to explore identity construction in the autobiographical graphic novel The loneliness of the long-distance cartoonist, by Adrian Tomine (2020a), through the lenses of its graphic project. The story is built upon a support that resembles a Moleskine sketchbook, presenting another layer of reading by the physical interaction with the product and the exploration of its spatiality. The objective of our analysis is to dive deeper into
the construction of identity through the use an item or product, as it is proposed by Floch (2000), taking into consideration the relationship established between the narrative and the tool of the comic creator trade, and also the approximation that the comic book promotes between author and reader.
