This paper will analyse some expressive procedures that would shape the poetic in the short story “A terceira margem do rio” [The third bank of the river], by Brazilian writer Guimarães Rosa. For that reason, we used discourse semiotics, a theory according to which the poetic in a text can be found when the categories of the expression plane become homologous to the content plane, taking the message to a higher degree of charm and effectiveness.
