Abstract

By contrasting two different theoretical and practical approaches, psychoanalysis and adapta tive psychology, a general account is rendered on the present situation of psychoanalysis in Chile. The ideas involved come from the life experience with school children up to 7 years old, they are developed in their connection to the fundamental psychoanalytical concept of father's function and the way by which women/mothers exercise their presence in Chilean society today as well as the recent and past historical and socio-cultural events underneath in a society searching to renew its identity.
