Abstract

During the last twenty years there has been an explosion of diagnoses of disorders, of so-called neurobiological origin, who have invaded childhood. In the last decade the number of children diagnosed as Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) has increased exponentially and during the last years the categorization of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has been imposed. In this article I will make a historical review, concerning two constructs: PDD and ASD, then I will present a clinical case from which I will raise some thoughts from a psychoanalytic perspective, on clinical work with parents and children with clinical signs of autism.
