Abstract

The objective of this article is to present the experience of the development of the video game Huni Kuin: Yube Baitana, by anthropologists, programmers and artists from São Paulo (SP) and the Huni Kuin (Kaxinawa) people of Rio Jordão (AC), aiming to describe its construction process, as well as the knowledge, creativity and transformations undertaken in the project. Through the presentation of issues, such as ways of knowledge circulation, copyright, registration and the use of technology among indigenous peoples, the article intends to question the constitution of the new object, it’s potential uses and users, as well as certain legal, educational and anthropological implications.

Author Biography

  • Guilherme Pinho Meneses, University of São Paulo. Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences. Social Anthropology Graduate Program

    PhD student in Social Anthropology at University of São Paulo (FFLCH-USP). He holds a Master's degree in Social Anthropology (2014) and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences (2011). He also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the  Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-EAESP, 2010). He is a member of the Post-Disciplinary Studies Laboratory (LAPOD), of the Center for Amerindian Studies (CEstA-USP), of the Urban Anthropology Center (NAU), and of the editorial committee of the Encyclopedia of Anthropology (E A). Recently, he coordinated the Huni Kuin video game project: Yube Baitana with the Kaxinawá Indians of the Jordan River, Acre, Brazil.
