Abstract

"The Enchanted Forces: Dance and Ritual among the Pankararu" is a photo exhibit with selected images from the collection of Carlos Estevão de Oliveira of the State Museum of Pernambuco, which is part of the project “Indigenous Peoples of Pernambuco: Memory, Documentation and Research” carried out by Centre of Studies and Research on Ethnicity (NEPE) of the Federal University of Pernambuco.

Author Biographies

  • Renato Athias, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco/ Laboratório de Antropologia Visual, Recife

    PhD in Anthropology from the University of Paris X (Nanterre), Associate Professor of the Department of Anthropology and Museum Studies and Professor of Anthropology at the Graduate Program of the Federal University of Pernambuco, where he also coordinates the Visual Anthropology Laboratory and the Centre for Studies and Research on Ethnicity (NEPE).

  • Sarapó Pankararu
    Pankararu leader in the village of the Pankararu Indigenous Land Brejo dos Padres, coordinator of the “Casa de Memória do Tronco Velho Pankararu”, and coordinator of Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Nordeste, Minas e Espirito Santo (APOINME)
