Abstract

The growing number of different family configurations demands for an assessment of the kind of relationships established between parents and children. Considering the difficulty of measuring these constructs, the aim of this paper is to present a systematic review about the main international and national measures that assess parent-child relations. In order to do that, searches were made in the IndexPsi and PsycInfo in the months of July and August 2007. The results of the systematic review pointed out seven international and three national measures as the most mentioned in the abstracts of the papers reviewed. A brief description of each measure is presented, with their purposes, assessed dimensions and the target population. Studies about validity and reliability of some measures are also presented. It is shown the necessity of adapting and creating national measures for this purpose, concerning the lack of available instruments in Brazil.
