Abstract

Past and present ideas of family are both influenced by, and act on, the development of a feminine identity. Women often consider their own femininity as centered on the idea of family. In the same way, traditional ideas of family have a strong feminine presence in them. By placing these concepts in a historical and sociological context, we open opportunities for the identification of other experiences that are similar to those presented by the researched group of mothers on the topic. This article is part of a Master’s Dissertation that presents some ideas on motherhood. We introduce some elements intrinsic to this condition, discussing the relationship between them, and taking into account social influences as well as women’s ongoing roles.
