Abstract

Our intent, with this article, is to present fragments of Sophocle´s Tereus that were not translated into Portuguese in a functional translation and also to discuss  the relationship between three birds, the swallow, the nightingale and the hoopoe, personified in mythology and literature as Philomela, Procne and Tereus. Different authors will select different as pects to prioritize, privileging one or another of these characters. However, we suggest that, implicitly, literature made its own choice.
