This article reflects on challenges and perspectives concerning teacher training in Portuguese language, in the contemporary context. It specifically discusses the importance of teaching and learning textual production, focusing on argumentation. To do so, it analyzes two digital memes on the theme 'school', in view of the argumentative strength and semiosis that involve them. The theoretical precepts can be found in Danblon (2005), Toulmin ([1958] 2001), Amossy (2018), among others. The perspectives of the BNCC (2018) support the analyses about textual production, TDIC and argumentation; and to treat multisemiosis, Rojo (2016) is used. It is concluded that, despite new generations, both students and teachers, born in the technological context, already dominate technological tools and, consequently, multisemiotic language practices, it is urgent to provide them with a critical and reflective training, which allows them to take positions and defend points of view that aim at the common good of all society, local and global.
