Argumentation, Theories of ArgumentationAbstract
The book 'Introduction to Argumentation Theories,' organized by Prof. Dr. Eduardo Lopes Piris and Prof. Dr. Rui Alexandre Grácio, marks an opportune moment for argumentation studies in Brazil. According to the organizers, it aims to become “a reference work on the main contemporary theories of argumentation” (p. 8). The book brings together a group of researchers affiliated with Brazilian and foreign institutions who are interested in the various properties of argumentation, which are focused on - to a greater or lesser extent - by different contemporary theoretical perspectives. The twelve perspectives discussed represent a panorama of argumentative studies on a global scale as well as in the Brazilian context. This is evident in the appropriation of these frameworks by Brazilian researchers for reflections and propositions concerning argumentation based on their interests, particularly in the realm of language studies.
