Abstract

The aim of this essay is to reflect on the book “The Magic Mountain”, by Thomas Mann, as a bildungsroman. If, on the one hand, it has become part of a literary canon that goes beyond borders and time, on the other, it can be interpreted in its conception on the face of dialogues thanks to which the author's choices can be apprehended. Schopenhauer and Nietzsche stand out as important interlocutors for the construction and conception of formation underlying the book, published at a critical moment of the German and European histories.
