Abstract

This article proposes a discussion of Bertolt Brecht’s play The
decision (Die Massnahme), through an analysis of the form of
the learning play (Lehrstück), as well as its polemical reception.
It discusses the concept of ‘re-functionalization’ as a political and
artistic strategy which is inherent to that kind of performance,
and then interprets excerpts of the play in order to examine the
concept of teaching proposed by it.
