Abstract

The sad plight of Syrian refugees seeking Europe as a solution to survive the war in their country which now completes five years, is also revealed in Brazil. Based on oral reports obtained between September and November 2015, this article seeks to highlight the conditions in which the Syrian refugees live in the city of Campinas/SP (the second in the state in number of refugees), the way the municipal government supports these people and what is the vision of these immigrants of the conflict in Syria, in order to offer a more unique perspective without the intermediation of the major media.

Author Biography

  • Victor Begeres Bisneto, Universidade de São Paulo

    Possui graduação em Geografia (bacharelado e licenciatura) pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) e título de mestre em Ciências no programa de geografia humana pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Atualmente é doutorando no programa de história social da Faculdade de Filosofia Letras e Ciências Humanas da Universidade de São Paulo (USP).

    Trabalhou como técnico do Laboratório de Geografia e Geoprocessamento na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas (PUCCAMP) e teve passagem pela Prefeitura Municipal de Campinas/SP como Assessor Técnico no Escritório de Planejamento. Tem experiência na área de geoprocessamento e cartografia temática. Seus atuais interesses e linhas de pesquisa se concentram no fundamentalismo religioso e modernização, geopolítica e mundo muçulmano. Atualmente ministra aulas de geografia para o ensino fundamental II no colégio Liceu Salesiano de Campinas
