Abstract

This article aims at providing subsidies for the study of Roman public baths within the context of its earlier developments in Roman-ruled Campania. Attempting to achieve such proposition, this small piece of work is a comparative study of the three public baths found in Pompeii at the year of its end, 79 AD: the Stabian Baths, the Forum Baths and the Central Baths. The focus here is the discussion of the Roman identity associated to thes e buildings, in a wider discussion about Romanizati on of Campania, and the problems with this concept.
