Gotham City and Metropolis stage among the most famous imaginary cities in the comics universe. Created in the United States in the late 30s, they are more than simple sets to the Batman’s and Superman’s adventures, they are fictional cities which reflect the issues experienced by the major urban centers of the time. This paper focuses on the representation of Batman’s and Superman’s cities, electing as research subject the crime and
urban problems in these two superheroes first stories, from 1938 until 1941.
