Abstract

This article aims to examine in which way and to what extent human freedom relates to divine freedom, as both are understood within the philosophical system built in Spinoza’s Ethics. To determine the nature of human freedom will require its compatibilization with the absolutely infinite substance, that is to say, God or simply nature. In so far as men are conceived by Spinoza as certain and determinate modifications of the infinite substance, it will be necessary to understand the convergences and divergences a conception of human freedom must operate concerning the definition of freedom as it was exposed in Part I of Ethics, as this definition, strictly speaking, would only apply to substance itself
