Abstract

The concepts of will and understanding in God, as Leibniz deals with them in the correspondence with Arnauld from July 14th, 1686, allows us to see, from a certain perspective, the way Leibniz preserves the possibility of contingent actions in a world conducted by the principle of reason. In these letters, Leibniz focuses the conceptual diff erentiation between substantial notions and specific notions. Behind this diff erentiation lies the concepts of will and understanding in God which will be here dealt with
