Abstract

According to the french philosopher and physician Georges Canguilhem , there is a qualitative diference between health and illness. For him, the pathological states would reveal a qualitatively modifi ed individual structure distinct from the normal states, whose singularity can be appreciated only in the relation of the organism with its environment. Beginning with the proximity between the dimension of the organic and the psychological in Canguilhem, the present article aims at analysing Canguilhem’s concepts of norm, health and mental trouble
