Abstract

This article examines the establishment of a juvenile culture in France, during late 50s. After Second World War, this nation has experienced a process of economic development when basic cultural elements has changed, modifying the characteristics that had constituted the traditional France ethos. In this context, the emergence and consolidation of a youth culture is emphasized. Therefore, the cinematographic production À bout de souffle (dir.: Jean-Luc Godard – 1960) is analyzed, searching for the way youth demands were absorbed and represented in the cinema. In addition, the emergence of cinematographic movement Nouvelle Vague and its approach with consolidation of youth as cultural actor is considered.
