Resumen

The manager's ultimate worry is to mantain his effectiveness. In order to mantain his effectiveness, i.e., to assure optimal use of available resources so as to attain extraordinary results the manager must ascertain that his subordinates are executing their tasks efficiently, i.e. that they are doing their jobs with the lowest effort possible. The objective of ascertaining subordinates efficiency is complicated when work expected of subordinates is not measurable in concrete terms. Thus, in order to assure subordinates' efficiency, specially in a white-collar environment, the manager will have to influence his subordinates in such a way as to make subordinates want to be efficient of their own accord. The Behavioral Sciences offer the "manager a few models to help him face this type of problem. Such models, in their most basic forms, are dealt with in this article.
