Abstract

Music is considered an efficient ergogenic resource, having this efficiency evidenced in the training of all types of strength and also in the psychological aspects of individuals, although there is a scarcity of this evidence specifically in women. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the acute effect of favorite, non-favorite music and absence of music on maximum strength, strength resistance and mood in women who practice weight training at a gym in Xanxerê-SC. The study was characterized as experimental and consisted of an intervention carried out in four moments, divided over four weeks, with three groups of women, exposing them to the tests of measurement of strength and mood in conditions with preferred songs, not preferred and without music in the bench press and knee extension exercises on the machine, using ~60% and ~85% of 1RME to evaluate resistance strength and maximum strength, respectively. The data were analyzed in a descriptive and inferential manner using the SPSS® for Windows® version 21.0 program. It was found that there was a difference (p = 0.031) only in the knee extension exercise on the machine, with 85% of 1RME when comparing the experiment with songs that they did not like (12.11 ± 2.62) in relation to the same exercise using songs they liked (14.44 ± 2.88). The results were that there was no difference in the strength of resistance in any of the conditions. At maximum strength, there was a difference only in the knee extension on the machine. In the mood state, there was no change between periods in all conditions. It is concluded that the music had an ergogenic role on the maximum force in the extension of knees.
