Transcultural adaptation of the Sports Facilities Management Questionnaire of Peiro, Martinez-Tur and Tordera

The aim of this article is the realization of cross-cultural adaptation of the questionnaire Sports Facilities Management developed by Peiró, Martinez-Tur and Tordera aiming to contribute to the sport management area offering a new tool for discussing the issue of managing sports facilities. The method used to carry out the cross-cultural adaptation was given by the following five stages: translation, synthesis, back translation, review by committee of experts and pretest. The original Spanish translation into Portuguese was performed by two independent translators, the synthesis was conducted by one of the researchers. The back-translation was performed by a third translator who performed the version of the translation obtained after synthesis from Portuguese into Spanish, he had no contact with the original questionnaire or versions of the translations. They were compared the original version, synthesis of the translations and back-translation version. The expert committee evaluated the version of the questionnaire with regard to semantic, idiomatic, cultural and conceptual equivalences. It was subsequently conducted pretest with sports facilities managers to check the clarity of the questionnaire information. No significant differences were observed between the original translations and back-translated version of the questionnaire. The committee of experts, after evaluation of the questionnaire, suggested some changes to fit the text and any questionnaire item was deleted. In the pretest was not indicated any difficulty in using the instrument, and reported the average time of 16 minutes to answer all of it. Given the results, it seems to be satisfactory and viable use of the instrument. Are recommended further studies to verify the applicability of the questionnaire, as well a instrument validation.
