About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The aim of the journal is to motivate and establish academic/scientific debate and to disseminate ideas and/or research, thus constituting a platform for Brazilian Studies. Such an objective is highly important, given the development of Brazilian studies as a new area of academic knowledge. Brazil has made great strides in recent years and today is one of the largest economies in the world. It will naturally become more and more visible on the international scene, and precisely because of its current economic role in the global context, it has awakened interest in the interdisciplinary study of its situation. As a result, there are growing initiatives in terms of academic collaboration among different universities as well as academic programmes devoted specifically to “Brazilian Studies”, one example being the Master in Brazilian Studies course offered by the University of Salamanca in collaboration with the University of São Paulo. Within this context of exchange of ideas among academic communities of “Brazilianists” in and outside of Brazil, the Revista de Estudios Brasileños has set itself the challenge of providing an open and dynamic space.
The editorial line of the REB is addressed mainly to academics studying Brazil, as well as any reader who may have a specific interest in Brazil for professional purposes.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to REB will be analysed by two anonymous external reviewers who will make a qualitative assessment of its form and contents, in line with the double-blind peer review system. The Editors of REB will also publish texts of interviews, book reviews and academic news, in their respective sections, and these are not subject to double-blind peer review.

The Editors-in-Chief are responsible for the assessment of manuscripts submitted to REB, and they will make a decision regarding publication within a period of two months starting with the reception of the manuscript.

All the elements of REB will be published together as part of an issue with its own table of contents.

Open Access Policy

All the contents of REB can be accessed freely and immediately, based on the principle that the free availability of research results permits a broad exchange of knowledge.

Journal History

The Revista de Estudios Brasileños (REB), published by Universia and the Universities of Salamanca and São Paulo, was conceived as a dynamic channel of scholarship open to all those interested in the configuration of Brazil’s identity, in the fields of the Humanities and the Social and Legal Sciences. It is aimed at incentivizing and establishing academic/scientific discussion and at disseminating ideas and/or research studies, thus constituting a platform for Brazilian Studies.
The journal will be published twice a year and comprises two fundamental areas: the Humanities on the one hand, and Social and Legal Sciences, on the other.
In each issue, in addition to the editorial and a general section comprising four to six articles addressing topics related to the editorial line (e.g. literature, culture, sociology, economics, anthropology, history, law, political science, geography, etc.), accepted after passing through a system of double-blind peer review, there will be an interview with a significant Brazilian intellectual or international Brazilianist, and a dossier with three to five articles devoted to a particular topic in-depth. There will also be a section for reviews of recently published books concerning topics addressed by the journal and a “Notice Board” for dissemination of news concerning university academic and research activity.
