This work consists of an analysis of the representations of Brazilian identity built by the Spanish newspaper
El País during the World Cup 2014. The goal is to study the concept of national identity in contemporary
communication and discover the view that the foreign media has of Brazil in times of globalization and
globalization of culture. The study uses as a theoretical critical analysis of the narrative as proposed by
Gonzaga Motta (2013), considering the journalistic text as a narrative genre that creates meaning on the
reality of the current Brazil, examining its stage of economic growth and its cultural references from the
gaze of the other , the foreign.
